Fernando Grade, plastic artist and advocate of causes died

In 2014, he had launched the book «The Algarve as we destroy it»

The artist from Faro, Fernando Silva Grade, defender of the causes of the environment, urbanism and territorial planning, died this Sunday, the 8th, in Faro, at age 64, victim of cancer.

As an advocate for causes, Fernando Grade ( 01-01-1955 / 08-09-2019), who was a trained biologist, had launched in 2014 the book «The Algarve as we destroyed it», which the author said was an analysis of the Algarve's recent history, namely a version that tells “a sad story of systematic and overwhelming devastation of the Algarve's natural, architectural and cultural heritage”.

The work, he explained then, had the objective of «rewriting the history of Faro and from the Algarve of the last 50 years, contesting the official version that describes it as a period of development, success and foreign exchange».

For Fernando Silva Grade, this was an important work for the region because “it can make a contribution to restoring the truth to history. This official version hides another very sad story, which has to do with the annihilation of a territory, heritage, landscapes and its natural beauty».

As a visual artist, a career he embraced leaving Biology behind, Fernando Silva Grade held numerous exhibitions, both individually and collectively.

The most recent group show in which he participated was "289", a project by Pedro Cabrita Reis, which took place at Solar das Pontes de Marchil, outside Faro, in the summer of last year.
