Minister says that the current epidemiological situation shows the need for "exceptional measures"

"The priority is to prepare the vaccination plan"

«Today we have an epidemiological situation that shows us that we need exceptional measures» said this Wednesday, the Minister of Health, during the discussion, in the Assembly of the Republic, of the possible extension of the state of emergency.

Marta Temido reminded deputies that the Government's report “does not mention the StayAway Covid app, nor the new variant of the virus. It is not this report that we are discussing here. We are discussing the use of an exceptional mechanism, which we use with a great sense of responsibility, to safeguard public health, in an especially aggressive context».

"The priority is to prepare the vaccination plan, that's what we're here for and we're going to continue for that," concluded the government official.

The Assembly of the Republic is debating and voting today on the presidential decree extending the state of emergency until 15 January to allow the maintenance of the measures enacted to mitigate the spread of the covid-19 pandemic in Portugal.
