Vila Real de Santo António Forest has new signage

Seven panels with map were installed

Since December, the National Forest of the Coastal Dunes of Vila Real de Santo António has had new signage, which will enhance the Aldeia Nova Trail and the route from VRSA to Montegordo.

The initiative was the result of a joint effort by the Nature and Forests Conservation Institute, of the Odiana Association, and was promoted by the Association for the Defense of the Heritage of Mértola (ADPM), with the support of the European project Inherit, funded by the EU's INTERREG MED programme.

In the forest, seven panels with a map and one over the chameleon were installed, as well as 2-way totem poles – made with recycled materials, resistant to the sun and easily replaceable.

According to ADPM, "by making this information available on site, it is also intended to inform tourists about the environmental interest of that space, as well as about the location of the different services: parking lots, picnic parks, campsites, among others."

The association recalls that «the Forest of VRSA was chosen, at national level, as a pilot area, to integrate the network of European areas INHERITURA, profiled to receive a seal of “INHERITURA AREA”, given by a technical committee created by Inherit Project, which aims to promote areas in which the protection of natural heritage represents an asset for developing sustainable tourist activities».
