In Loco is looking for partners to supply Algarve canteens with local products

Interested parties can join until the 31st of January

In Loco is looking for partners and participants to help build a model for supplying canteens with local production, within the scope of the “Local Food 4 Local Economy” (LF4LE) project, resulting from a recently approved application to the Civic Europe programme.

The Algarve local development association launched "a call to mobilize different key players in the Algarve region", namely "municipalities, school groups, private social solidarity entities and small producers in the Algarve, who wish to join the initiative and contribute to the construction of a model for supplying canteens in the Algarve using local production».

The objective is to promote, among these partners, «a critical look at the current systems of production and food distribution», contributing to the joint creation of a model that takes local products to school canteens and «that can be adopted and disseminated throughout the region”, according to In Loco, which has a partnership with Algarve municipalities in this initiative.

By the end of 2021, the participants will be involved in several initiatives, namely: «Training actions on SAL, local food policies, boosting the local economy, among other related themes; Exchanges of SAL experiences and good practices taking place in Portugal; and Participation meetings to define a diagnosis of the needs/difficulties felt by the different key actors, for the implementation of SAL in the region and for the definition and construction of the Canteen Supply Model».

Those interested in joining this project must express their interest until January 31, through the email address [email protected], telephone number 289 840 860 or by filling out the form available here.

The “Local Food 4 Local Economy” project arises «following the work carried out over decades to fight for the preservation of endogenous resources and for the sustainable development of the Algarve region»

«The impact of food on the sustainability of the planet and on the development of local economies is now known. The issue was intensified by the current pandemic caused by Covid-19, which reinforced the idea that the consumption of locally sourced food is essential to guarantee uninterrupted access to fresh, quality food. Therefore, it is important to change local food systems, building more sustainable consumption models, based on better management of resources, consumption and supply», framed In Loco.
