hospitals of Faro and Portimão receive 173 interns

130 will start their General Formation and 43 will undertake Specialized Formation

Hospitals in Faro and Portimão, from the University Hospital Center of the Algarve (CHUA), will receive 173 new interns. The reception of the new professionals took place this Wednesday, January 6th, in two face-to-face sessions, at the EVA Hotel (Faro) and at Portimão Arena.

Of the total number of interns that the University Hospital Center of the Algarve (CHUA) received this year, 130 will start their General Training and 43 will carry out Specialized Training in hospital units in Faro and from Portimão.

Interns will be placed in the following specialties: Anesthesiology (2), Cardiology (1), General Surgery (3), Infectious Diseases (1), Gastroenterology (2), Gynecology/Obstetrics (3), Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (2 ), Intensive Care Medicine (3), Internal Medicine (8), Nephrology (1), Neurology (1), Medical Oncology (2), Otolaryngology (1), Clinical Pathology (1), Medical Pediatrics (3), Pulmonology (1 ), Psychiatry (6), Rheumatology (1), Urology (1).

On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve, the executive member Paulo Neves and the Clinical Director Horácio Guerreiro were present, who highlighted the fact that the Algarve is already one of the most chosen regions for medical training and that these new interns are the future from CHUA, an institution where they will have opportunities to demonstrate their full potential and learn.

Paulo Neves also highlighted the importance of the Hospital Center in the regional panorama due to its unique characteristics, namely the fact that it integrates a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Center, as well as all the Basic Emergency Services in the Algarve.

 

 

The president of the Regional Health Administration Paulo Morgado was also present, highlighting the «great diversity of services and opportunities for the enrichment of training that [internal doctors] are now starting, and the importance these professionals have in the future of the National Health Service ».

Ana Camacho, director of the Medical Internship at CHUA, highlighted the growing quality of the training programs for young interns, highlighting the work developed by the clinical specialties, their tutors and the direction of the Medical Internship, as well as the institution's strong connection to the world university, namely the Medicine Course of the University of Algarve through the consortium between both intuitions, which gave rise to the Algarve Biomedical Center.

The reception was also attended by Eunice Capela and Jorge Simões, representing the Medical Association – Southern Region.

With regard to General Training, in order to deepen their knowledge in various clinical contexts, the interns will develop their training, in a supervised manner, in different specialties and services in the hospital units of Faro and Portimão and also in the Health Centers in the region.

Moreover, the Health Centers will also receive 18 intern doctors from the General and Family Medicine specialty placed in the three Health Center Groups (ACeS) of the ARS Algarve.
