Cross-border fair showcases contemporary art from the Algarve and Andalusia

It starts today and ends on Sunday, with the city of Tavira as a reference

12 artists, six representing the Algarve and another many from Andalusia, will show the art made in the south of the Iberian Peninsula from today until Sunday, at the Transfrontier Contemporary Art Fair, which, this year, it will be done online, even if having as a reference the city of Tavira, the place where everything would happen (physically), were it not for the pandemic.

The inauguration of the fair takes place today at 18 pm, with a program that includes a virtual visit to parallel exhibitions and ends with a concert by Vicky Vega & Mario Pousada.

All this will be broadcast on streaming direct, over the internet, the way found by the organizers of the fair to continue to show the art that is made in the Algarve and Andalusia, in an event that has an extensive cultural program, which includes concerts, round tables with artists, poetry recitals, video art and a lot more.

The Algarve will be represented at this event by plastic artists Milita Doré, Bertílio Martins and Jina Nebe, by photographers João Ribeiro, Nuno Pinheiro and Rui Serra Ribeiro.

Vasco Vidigal, from the Artadentro gallery (Faro), who will make a presentation, and by Algarve poets Tiago Nené, Pedro Jubilot and Eduardo Vaz are other representatives of the Algarve region at the event.

The Spanish side of the border will be represented by plastic artists Inmaculada Salinas, Antonio Belmonte and Juan Manuel Seisdedos, photographers Blanca Morales, José Ramírez and Luis Jurado.

There will also be a video art component, guaranteed by Hernando Urrutia (Algarve) and by Miguel Ángel Concepción and Rocío López-Zarandieta (Andalusia).

The second edition of the event will be jointly organized by the Asociación de Amigos de la Fundación Olontia, the Association and Nucleus of Photographers of the Algarve (A|NAFA). These associations are joined by the Câmara de Tavira, the Ajuntamento de Gíbraléon and the Diputación Provincial de Huelva, in neighboring Andalusia.

According to the organizers, the cross-border Contemporary Art Fair aims to «foster the connections between the art of southern Spain and Portugal and help its dissemination, as well as foster a fluid dialogue between artists from the Algarve and southern Andalusia» .
