The Algarve and Baixo Alentejo will be under yellow warning from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere between 15:00 pm today and 12:00 noon tomorrow, due to the agitation of the sea, namely the forecast of waves from the northwest with 4 to 4,5 meters on the coast Western.
According to IPMA, the same level of warning will be repeated between 12:00 and 18:00 on Monday, the 1st.
The forecast of strong maritime agitation led the Navy and the National Maritime Authority to issue an alert for "an exceptional worsening of weather conditions and maritime agitation for the west coast of mainland Portugal", which, even so, will be more worrying - and prolonged – in the North and Center of the country.
The two entities “reinforce the recommendation, in particular to the fishing and recreational boating community that is at sea, for the possible return to the nearest port of refuge and the adoption of precautionary measures”.
"It is recommended to strengthen the mooring and surveillance of moored and anchored vessels and it is also recommended that seafarers maintain a permanent state of surveillance and monitor the evolution of the weather situation, through navigational warnings and weather forecast broadcast by the Navy regarding the IPMA weather forecast, as well as other information provided by the Captaincies on the conditions of access to the ports, avoiding going out to sea until conditions improve”, according to the Navy and AMN.
"To the population in general, due to the current pandemic context in which we find ourselves, we remind you that they must remain at home, in safety, not unnecessarily exposing themselves to risk, and therefore they must not take walks along the coastline and beaches, nor engage in activities recreational activities in areas exposed to maritime agitation, it is essential that a preventive posture is taken», add the same entities.
