Algarve pilot Winter Amaral leaves «mark of talent and inspiration in several generations»

Amaral Winter was 68 years old

Former Algarve pilot Winter Amaral died this Saturday, aged 68, from a long-term illness. Amaral winter, natural from Faro, was the first national rally champion in the Algarve, in 1987.

In a note published on its Facebook page, the Clube Automóvel do Algarve emphasizes that the driver leaves «a mark of talent and inspiration in several generations of regional and national fans».

«Lord of an eclectic career (speed, Pocross, rallying and TT), highlighted by the national title of Popcross in 1980 and the triumph in the Citroen Visa Rally Trophy in 1983, the peak of his career was reached in 1987 when he won the championship national rally at the wheel of a Renault 11 Turbo Gr», recalls the Clube Automóvel do Algarve.

He also won «his Rally do Algarve in general, in an edition marked by mud. Later he will also be an official Nissan driver in the first years of the Trophy and National TT Championship».

On the same note, the Clube Automóvel do Algarve leaves «its heartfelt vote to family, friends, fans and all those who were marked by this great man of Algarve motorsport».

Also the Municipality of Faro he reacted to the death of José Winter Amaral «with nostalgia for one of the most successful motorists in the Algarve ever».
