Psychiatrist Júlio Machado Vaz and pathologist Manuel Sobrinho Simões discuss the interactions between social behavior and biological inheritance, in contexts of stress or crisis

The 2020 Christmas Conference Ciência Viva will be held on December 21, at 19 pm, at the São João National Theater, Porto, and will be broadcast online in www.cienciaviva.pt e Antena 1. The Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education Manuel Heitor will be present.

What effects does stress have on our brain and behavior? Do we become more sociable, cooperative or empathetic in times of crisis? And at Christmas?

At the Natal Ciência Viva Conference, psychiatrist Júlio Machado Vaz and pathologist Manuel Sobrinho Simões discuss the interactions between social behavior and biological heritage, in contexts of stress or crisis such as the one in which we currently live.

It will be a special session of “Old Friends“, podcast and weekly program of Antena 1, moderated by journalists Tiago Alves and Miguel Soares.

The Ciência Viva Christmas Conferences are organized in partnership with leading scientific institutions, both national and foreign. are inspired by Christmas Lectures do Royal Institution of London, created in 1825 by Michael Faraday, and are aimed at audiences of all ages.

Manuel Sobrinho Simões is recognized as one of the most influential pathologists in the world. He is the founder of IPATIMUP and Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto, collaborating with other leading international institutions in the areas of pathology and cancer. It was the Ciência Viva Grand Prix in 2016.

Júlio Machado Vaz is a psychiatrist and was a Professor at the Department of Behavioral Sciences at the Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedical Sciences, University of Porto.

He is Commander of the Order of Infante D. Henrique. Assiduous presence in the media, he is the author of several publications in his specialty.
