The Quarteira, Sagres and Vila Real de Santo António auctions are the three structures in the Algarve managed by Docapesca that already have food safety certification.

Docapesca obtained the ISO22000 certification, by APCER, of the food safety management system of nine auctions in the last four years and, in addition, the transition to the 2018 reference of this standard was also successfully completed.

This year, the certification was extended to the auctions in Setúbal and Quarteira, and the certification of the auctions in Póvoa de Varzim, Figueira da Foz, Sagres, Sesimbra, Viana do Castelo, Aveiro and Vila Real de Santo António was also renewed.

«Since the hygiene and food safety of fish is one of Docapesca's strategic objectives, the company has been strengthening the conditions of food safety and quality through the requalification of buildings and equipment and the improvement of organizational procedures, with a view to implementing a qualified food safety management system», explains the company.

This certification is considered "essential", as Docapesca "is responsible for the application of food safety standards to fish traded in auctions on the Portuguese mainland, also contributing to the enhancement of the product and to strengthening the traceability of fish and of information to the consumer'.

«This guarantees, in an independent and impartial way, the recognition that the products are supplied in a safe way, with quality and in compliance with the requirements defined by the ISO 22000 standards».

Docapesca - Portos e Lotas, SA is a company in the State Business Sector under the supervision of the Ministry of the Sea, which is in charge, on the continent, of the service of the first sale of fish and the support to the fishing sector and respective ports, offering 22 auctions and 37 stations.
