Abílio Jesus Guerreiro, trainer in the kitchen area at the Algarve Hotel and Tourism School (EHTA), was distinguished with the “Best Career in Professional Teaching Career” award at the Hospitality Education Awards, the awards for Tourism Training in Portugal.

This initiative, promoted by the Associação Fórum Turismo, aims to dignify the professions in the area and, at the same time, encourage the training of excellence, with a view to meeting the needs of the sector.

In the category of Best Teaching Career in Professional Education, EHTA trainer Abílio Guerreiro was chosen among several dozen trainers across the country, in an edition in which a record number of applications for these awards was achieved.

With regard to this award, Abílio Guerreiro compares the classroom, in the context of professional training, as «a blank canvas, in which all students contribute with their painting and creativity».

“At the end, we have the painted picture, which is a knowledge base to share with everyone. This knowledge will make it possible to build a better world, based on education. That's what I believe,” he says.

For six years, Abílio Guerreiro, aged 47, has been working as Coordinator of the Cooking Course and is a trainer of several modules. He is also responsible for the Open Experimentation Laboratories, as well as representing the Algarve Hotel and Tourism School in the Safeguarding Committee of the Mediterranean Diet.

For Paula Vicente, director of the Algarve Hotel and Tourism School, this award “recognises and praises the work carried out in the area of professional education and gives us encouragement to continue along this path, which is demanding and challenging, but which is essential for the future of the country and which will have the commitment of the entire school network of Turismo de Portugal».
