#DoceNatalCompreLocal is a Facebook awareness campaign in Portugal to buy online and help local businesses. To prove that it is possible to keep the tradition, Facebook challenged two Portuguese pastry specialists (Francisco Moreira and Rita Nascimento) to participate in this campaign.

Os dois chefs they nominated the 10 best bolos reis and the rest of Christmas sweets in Portugal. Francisco Moreira chose Quinta dos Avós as one of the locations. This space, which exists since 1989, has both queen cake and princess cake.

In Portugal, this chef is recognized for his work in luxury restaurants and for presenting the “Doces do Ofício” program at the '24 Kitchen'. In Belgium, one of the world's leading chocolate producing regions, Francisco is chef at the Chocolate Academy, Barry-Callebaut's prestigious training school.

According to Francisco, a king cake must be, in the first place, "balanced in the variety of ingredients: that there is a balance in the mixture of candied fruits and dried fruits".

The dough should be 'flavoured and flavored' and the texture 'smooth without being doughy'.

Quinta dos Avós is an old farmhouse located next to the Algoz road, now transformed into a tea and pastry shop, where you can eat the best and most traditional Algarve sweets, from the hands of Dona Encarnação. The space also has a small rural museum.

In addition to Quinta dos Avós, the chef chose some emblematic spaces in Portugal as having the best Christmas sweets. Francisco Moreira chose Pastelarias Garrett, Versailles (Lisbon) and Violeta (Évora), Confeitaria Nacional (Lisbon), Tavi and Nova Real (Porto), in Ferreira Capa (Braga), Docealhada (Mealhada) and Kodea Bakery (Madeira).

Rita Nascimento, or 'La Dolce Rita' as she is better known in popular recipe videos, was trained in pastry making.

There is no doubt about the king cake: «the dough must be very tasty and with a good texture, very fluffy, and loaded with fruit».

The best cakes for 'La Dolce Rita' are: Pastelaria O Careca (Lisbon), Confeitaria Nacional (Lisbon), Pastelaria Batalha (Lisbon and Mafra), Pastelaria Versailles (Lisbon), Confectionery Petúlia (Porto), Confectionery Tavi (Porto) , Confeitaria Nova Real (Porto), Pastelaria Flor de Aveiro (Aveiro), Pastelaria Luiz da Rocha (Beja) and Confeitaria Lopes (Ponte de Lima).
