Campaign raises money to buy gifts and clothing for children in homes

Action also aims to raise funds to carry out small works

It all started with a solidarity campaign, launched by a resident of Alvor, which aimed to raise €10 to buy gifts and clothes for the children of the Bom Samaritano Children's Home, but the “great generosity” of the donors quickly did this. crowdfunding action evolve into a more ambitious initiative, which will involve over 56 children from two institutions, in Lagoa and Portimão.

According to Alison Firth, who launched the solidarity campaign, to which anyone can contribute through the GoFundMe platform, the idea arose due to the decrease in support and donations of food and Christmas gifts from many local companies to the institution, due to the economic difficulties created in this area by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Originally, the objectives of crowdfunding were “buying a gift for each child and new shoes, warm pajamas”, supplying food for the Christmas celebration and repairing a wooden structure that is the “leisure center and the main study centre”.

"Best of all", reveals Alison, is that one of the supporters "offered to match the value of every donation we received", so that every euro donated to the fundraising campaign now created "is worth two".

Given the rapid pace at which donations were being given to this cause, its promoter decided to expand it.

«Right now, we also want to buy clothes and shoes for another 56 children, from two other institutions, in Lagoa and Portimão», reads Alison's text on the campaign's page.

In this case, this help will be given through the BPI's Christmas campaign, and the crowdfunding organizers have already contacted the agencies in Portimão and Lagoa of this bank

Those interested in donating can do it here. The goal is to raise the money before Christmas, and 10.200 euros have already been donated to this cause.
