AlgarveShopping will donate 220 hampers with food for the Christmas Dinner to families in the parishes of Albufeira and Olhos de Água and Paderne, in the municipality of Albufeira, and Cachopo, in the municipality of Tavira.

The families were identified by Entrajuda, a partner entity of the “Alimentar o Espírito de Natal” initiative.

The basket is made up of typical Christmas Eve products such as cod, olive oil, potatoes, drinks, cheese, sausages, dried fruits, sweets and chocolates.

“Due to the context of the pandemic, we know that several families in the community where we are located are going through a difficult period and, many of them, will not be able to buy food to put on the table at Christmas dinner, as they would be used to. We could not remain indifferent to this reality, we want people in our community to feel cherished and to celebrate the most magical night of the year with a full table. The hampers will be delivered to families until the 24th of December, through the partners of the Food Emergency Network», explains Carla Martins, director of AlgarveShopping.

At the same time, AlgarveShopping emphasizes that «it is appealing to its visitors, community and employees to also support this cause, contributing through the website alimentestaideia.pt, which supports the Food Bank Against Hunger, which will subsequently distribute food according to the criteria of the region and, depending on the entities registered in the Food Emergency Network.

“The pandemic has boosted the number of needy families in Portugal and requests for food aid have not stopped increasing since March. this cause and appealing for the support of all Portuguese people through the alimentestaideia.pt platform, a convenient, safe, quick and easy way to contribute with food to those who need them most in this particularly complicated moment», adds Isabel Jonet, president of the Portuguese Federation of the Food Banks.

The 'Alimentar o Espírito de Natal' initiative emerged as part of the Corporate Responsibility of Sonae Sierra shopping centres, which «each year embrace a solidary cause, seeking to have a positive impact on their surrounding communities».
