Tavira made his heritage known to tourism professionals

Action was carried out under the project “Sustentur – Preservation of the natural and cultural heritage of the Algarve region”

Professionals in the tourism sector were this week in Tavira to discover the heritage existing in this municipality.

The visit, as part of the “Our cultural heritage” action, «aimed at making tourist entertainment companies and tourist information professionals aware of the importance of preserving and respecting the region's cultural heritage», according to the Town Council of Tavira.

"The initiative also intended to contribute to the creation of a regional culture of valorization and preservation of the region's cultural assets, promoting correct communication and a better tourist and cultural experience of the built heritage," added the municipality.

Among other places, the participants visited the Municipal Museum – Palácio da Galeria and Islamic Museum Nucleus -, the Churches of Santa Maria, Misericórdia and Espírito Santo (São José), as well as the Castle (central nucleus and walls).

This was an action carried out within the scope of the project “Sustentur – Preservation of the natural and cultural heritage of the Algarve region”, supported by the Valorizar do Turismo de Portugal Program, with the collaboration of the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve.

The main objective of this project is to promote the sustainability of the natural and cultural heritage of the Algarve region, among visitors and residents, through various awareness and training actions.
