Seven municipalities in the Algarve join São Brás in the list of municipalities at risk

Measures come into effect at midnight on November 0th, Monday

Albufeira, Faro, Lagos, Portimão, Tavira, Vila do Bispo and Vila Real de Santo António are the seven municipalities in the Algarve that join São Brás de Alportel in the list of municipalities at high risk, the prime minister has just announced in a press conference, after a Council of Ministers that lasted more than eight hours.

The measures for the 77 municipalities across the country (including the seven from the Algarve) that will appear on the list come into force at midnight on Monday, 0 November, added António Costa.

In the case of the Algarve, the municipality of São Brás de Alportel remains in the group of municipalities with the most restrictions, due to the increase in cases of Covid-19, which had been the only municipality in the region to be included in the first list of 121 municipalities .

In total, the Algarve region will have eight municipalities subject to greater restrictions imposed by the state of emergency.

The big news, in relation to the data that the Sul Informação announced this morning, is the entrance of the municipality of Tavira in this group with the greatest restrictions. All others are confirmed.

António Costa explained that the new regime will enter into force in these 77 municipalities only at midnight on Monday, "so that everyone has enough time to adapt to the new measures".

The prime minister announced that there will be restrictions on trade over the next two weekends, applying the closing measures from 13:00 pm and opening from 8:00 am, namely in shopping centres.

Outside these hours are only pharmacies, clinics and offices, food outlets with doors to the street of up to 200 square meters (therefore not covering large supermarkets) and petrol stations.

From 13h00, restaurants can only operate via home delivery.

On the other hand, António Costa announced that, in order to help face the difficulties created by restrictions on circulation, the Government also approved support for restoration. Thus, it was determined to compensate 20% of the loss of revenue on both weekends (14th and 15th November; 21st and 22nd November) against the average of the 44 previous weekends (from January to October 2020).

On the fact that there is support for restaurants and not for commerce, Costa explained the “different treatment” due to the characteristic of the restaurant “which obviously, being open in the morning, cannot serve dinners”. The prime minister admitted, however, that it will be difficult for commerce due to the expected "downturn in demand".
