Orquestra Vicentina releases album «of music from the world, which is the Algarve»

Album has eight songs

«It is a record of music from the world, from the world that is the Algarve». The online pre-release of “Somos Todos”, the first album by the Orquestra Vicentina, an international collective that brings together musicians and friends “who love and live” the Costa Vicentina, takes place this Friday, 20 November.

And "all" is a word that fits perfectly in the philosophy of the Vincentian Orchestra – a multicultural project that wants, through music, to promote inclusion. An example of this is the fact that this collective of musicians has people from Portugal, France, Israel or Brazil.

Ao Sul Informação, André Duarte, the artistic director of the Orchestra, explains that this album, which has eight songs, «came naturally».

«Our project was born within Lavrar o Mar, within the scope of the show Dancing, in 2018. After that, we did some concerts throughout that summer and, during conversations between everyone, the idea of making this album came up. we made a kitty between us and we really advanced with the idea», adds the musician, also known as Júnior, leader of Terrakota.

The recordings took place from October 2019, until February, March this year. Then, already in full confinement, «all the work at the editing level was done». The album was recorded by the Algarve musician Vítor Bacalhau and has the special participation of Beto Kalulu.

And what can we expect from this album? Basically, «the reflection of the communion that unites 12 musicians, 12 friends».

«His origins and experiences are invoked in his creations and extend from Israel to the Algarves, extending across the Atlantic to Brazil and the pulsating Caribbean. The roots of the collective are joined by musical influences that include semba from Angola, reggae/rocksteady from Jamaica and afro-beat from Nigeria, in themes sung in Portuguese, English, Spanish and Hebrew, thus creating an amalgamation of inspirations», explains the band.

After the pre-release on digital platforms, such as Youtube, Spotify, iTunes and bandcamp, the official release of the album takes place on Monday, the 23rd, and expectations for the acceptance of the songs by the public are good.

Also starting on Monday, songs from this album will begin airing on Rádio Universitária do Algarve (RUA) FM, Rádio Gilão and RIO – Rádio Internacional de Odemira.

For the future, the idea is to “have concerts” to present the album, but the molds are not yet defined.

“We are studying the hypotheses. Taking into account the situation of the pandemic, I don't know if we will do something in person or just online, but it is certain that we want to promote and show the album», concludes André Duarte.
