Jacques Pereira, an Algarve footballer who played for FC Porto and became the top scorer in the I National Division in 1981/1982, died this Tuesday, 3 November, in Vila Real de Santo António, where he lived. I was 65 years old.

Graduated in the Lusitano de VRSA, Jacques built a career by hand. He started at Farense, went through Famalicão and Braga until arriving at FC Porto, in 1981/1982.

That season, the Algarve striker scored 34 goals in 41 games, becoming the top scorer in the championship. The following years were less powerful for Jacques, but the striker ended up becoming national champion in 1984/1985.

At FC Porto, he also won a Portuguese Cup and two Super Cups.

After the adventure in Antas, Jacques returned to Braga, having also played for Sporting da Covilhã, before returning to the Algarve, where he played for the final years of his career. his Lusitano from VRSA and Castromarinense.

The Algarve was also Portuguese international, in 1981, in a private between Portugal and Bulgaria.

Lusitano has already reacted to Jacques' death, speaking of “immense sadness” at seeing this symbol of the club go. At the senior team's next game, on Saturday 7 November, VRSA athletes will wear a black armband in honor of Jacques.
