Lagos has already started to renovate the Meia Praia road

Work will cost 2 million euros

The requalification work on the Meia Praia road (via V10) has already started, which “will improve the accessibility, road and pedestrian, as well as the urban image of this sea front”, announced the City Council of Lagos.

The first works of this contract, which will cost around 2 million euros, began in October, «with the installation of the shipyard and preparation of the diversions».

«As of next Monday, and during the period that will run until mid-May of next year, there will be traffic restrictions, with access to the road being ensured through a parallel road, with alternate passage through traffic lights. However, access for emergency vehicles will always be guaranteed”, according to the municipality.

Altogether, a section of about 1300 meters of a road will be repaired which, «currently, there are no sidewalks, or when there are, they are not continuous, and where the circulation is made with some difficulty for pedestrians».

«The main objective of the intervention is, therefore, to create a road that allows the interaction between the pedestrian and the vehicle, with gains in terms of road safety. For this, a north sidewalk, a green corridor and a two-way carriageway will be created. The replacement and reinforcement of lighting along the entire road, the creation of pockets for bus stops and the creation of some seating areas are also planned”, summarized the City Council of Lagos.

The idea is to create “a calm road, where travel is slower, which is why the pavement will be mixed, so that vehicles travel comfortably along the route, but are forced to reduce speed in areas where there are intersections or pedestrians crossing the lane'.

"The southernmost part of the road is not included in the intervention, as this strip is being considered within the scope of the Meia Praia dune ridge valorization project, currently underway, as well as in the project to create the cycle path", added the municipality.

The work has a period of execution of 300 days and will be carried out in three phases, «the first corresponding to the installation of the temporary water network, the second to the creation of the underground infrastructure network and the last to the paving and landscaping. The work is expected to be completed in July of next year».
