Gonçalo Pescada pays tribute to Astor Piazzolla at a concert in Olhão

Algarvian accordionist will play emblematic works by the Argentine composer

The Algarve accordionist Gonçalo Pescada will perform in a concert in tribute to Astor Piazzolla, on Friday, the 13th, at 21 pm, at the José Mariano Gago Municipal Library, in Olhão.

Admission is free, but subject to space capacity, in accordance with the norms of the General Directorate of Health.

Gonçalo Pescada will interpret «the beautiful works of the Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992), in a program in which the melodic simplicity merges with the harmonic complexity of the “new tango”, from humble roots to contemporaneity», according to the Câmara de Olhão .

Among the themes included in the line-up are Libertango, Adios Noniño, Oblivion, Chiquilin di Bachin, Revirado, S'Il vous plaît, Ballad para un loco, Decarissimo, Vuelvo al sur, Alguien le dice al tango, Jacinto Chiclana, Yo soy Maria, Fracanapa and Violentango.

 

 

About Gonçalo Pescada:

Gonçalo Pescada was born in Faro, on August 10, 1979.

Doctorate with distinction and praise in Music and Musicology (interpretation) by the University of Évora, in 2014, he also completed a two-stage degree in Music (interpretation) by the Superior School of Applied Arts (Castelo Branco), the Complementary Accordion Course by Instituto Musical Vitorino Matono (Lisbon) and Professionalization in Service (M01 and M32) by Universidade Aberta.

He was distinguished with several awards, including 1st prize in the National Accordion Competition (Alcobaça, 1995), 1st prize in the International Accordion Competition “Citá di Montese” (Italy, 2004) and 1st prize in the Estoril Interpretation Competition ( 2006).

He performed as a soloist with several orchestras, debuting and performing several works for his first audition in Portugal. He was invited to participate in prestigious festivals in Spain, France, United Kingdom, Germany, Italy and Bulgaria.

It has been recorded for radio and television (for example Antena 2, RTP and Bulgarian national radio and television).

His discography includes several solo works, in chamber music and with an orchestra. Some composers have dedicated new works to him for accordion.
