The four Municipal Councils of the Natural Park of Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina (PNSACV) will move forward with joint actions to combat motorhomes and wild camping and take «concrete steps to prepare and assume» the co-management of this protected area.

These were two decisions that came out of a meeting between the mayors of Vila do Bispo and Aljezur, both from the Algarve, and Odemira, in Baixo Alentejo, with João Paulo Catarino and Jorge Botelho, the secretaries of State for Nature Conservation, Forestry and Spatial Planning and Decentralization and Local Administration, respectively.

The meeting was also attended by the national and regional heads of the Institute for Nature and Forest Conservation, Nuno Banza and Castelão Rodrigues.

In addition to motorhome and wild camping and the co-management of the Natural Park, the challenges posed within the scope of the Mira Irrigation Perimeter were on the table, as well as the need to review the PNSACV Plan, which urges its rapid implementation.

For the Chambers involved, this "very fruitful" meeting is "urgent that measures and actions are taken to safeguard this territory and, at the same time, respond to the challenges facing this region, where the Alentejo joins the Algarve ».

The meeting between the different entities took place following the meeting between the mayors, in July, where, «among others, they concluded that, between what's needed and what's there, the conservation of nature and biodiversity continue to be the greatest asset. was valid for this region'.

The municipality of Odemir stresses that "the challenges are great" for the four municipalities that have the PNSAVC in their territory.

«Several economic activities, such as tourism, agriculture, fishing, among others, are beginning to jeopardize some of the balance that is defended and necessary, so that this continues to be one of the most preserved places in the country and in Europe, being the enormous challenge to maintain balance and the need to value traditional activities», defend the three municipalities.

The mayors also addressed the investment needs, in the most diverse areas, «now that the problems and challenges tend to worsen», bearing in mind that this territory is increasingly sought «for investments in agriculture, tourism, among others. The urgency, on the part of the Central State, to invest and look at these territories, which due to their unique characteristics, in terms of biodiversity, for many years have been eager and awaiting various investments, in public services, in equipment and infrastructures» .
