Albufeira: A blue bow on the chest to warn of prostate cancer

This action follows on from the “October Rosa” that the Municipality developed last month

Workers at the Municipality of Albufeira who provide assistance to the public are wearing, throughout November, a blue bow on their chests to warn of prostate cancer.

This action follows on from the “October Rosa” that the Municipality developed last month and to which the professionals of the municipality who serve the public adhered, both in the Paços do Concelho building and in the other municipal buildings, using a pink bow on the breast cancer throughout the month, thus alerting to the problem of breast cancer.

As for the November Azul campaign, it is the first time that Albufeira has joined the initiative and on the 2nd of this month, the councilor responsible for the Commission for Equality and Citizenship, Ana Pífaro, distributed blue ribbons to those who in the different buildings are in contact with the public

On the same day, an awareness-raising action on prostate cancer was carried out for workers in the Municipality, carried out by the municipal nurse.

Frederico Magalhães clarified this problem, warned of the symptoms and the procedures to be undertaken and a brochure on prostate cancer will soon be given to all men working in the Municipality.

According to Ana Pífaro, «talking about prostate cancer is still taboo for many and naturally causes some embarrassment. With this in mind, we started by sensitizing the men of this municipality, always paying attention to various factors, such as age, literacy and personality, since it is more difficult to talk about male intimacy than female intimacy».

In Albufeira, workers who serve the public, as well as those in municipal workshops and warehouses, wear a blue bow on their chests until the 16th of this month.
