Sofia Escobar joins Loulé Conservatory teachers for an unprecedented concert

Sofia Escobar is one of the best known singers in Portugal

This Saturday, October 24th, from 21 pm, singer Sofia Escobar joins nine teachers from the Loulé Francisco Rosado Music Conservatory for an unprecedented concert at the Cine-Teatro Louletano. 

This is even «one of the most awaited musical moments of the year», recognizes the Câmara de Loulé. The collective of teachers will be composed of Luís Lopo (arrangements and direction), Sérgio Leite (piano), Rui Mourinho (guitar), Rui Travasso (clarinet), João Lourenço (transverse flute), José Gomes (violin), André Fresco (viola) bow), Bárbara Santos (cello) and Vasco Ramalho (percussion).

The concert, included in the programmatic cycle “O Longe é Aqui”, follows the meeting, also integrated in the same section, which brought together Jorge Palma with the Loulé Jazz Trio, an event that marked the celebration of World Music Day.

Sofia Escobar is one of the best known singers in Portugal. Born in 1981, in Guimarães, and at the end of the course, at the Conservatory of Porto, where he studied classical singing, he decided to risk everything and asked for a loan to study singing and acting at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, one of the most renowned schools of European arts.

Later, she landed the role of acting actress for the main character in “The Phantom of the Opera”, a play by Lloyd Webber, where she assumed the main role. She won the award for “Best Actress in a Musical” at the Whatsonstage Theatregoer's Choice Awards and was nominated in the same category at the Laurence Olivier Awards for her performance in West Side Story. She was a member of the Got Talent Portugal judge between 2015 and 2016. She currently divides her life between London, Madrid and Lisbon.

The Loulé Music Conservatory – Francisco Rosado, inaugurated in September 2018, is the first public music education school in the South of the country, located in the emblematic (now rehabilitated) building of the Solar da Música Nova.

It currently has several ensemble classes including choir, string, guitar and wood orchestras, percussion, brass and wind ensembles, early music, accordion and piano, with a total of 250 students and 35 teachers, under the direction of Sérgio Leite.

At the concert, the capacity will be limited and subject to the mandatory use of a mask, in accordance with the health and safety rules of the DGS.

The Cineteatro is a cultural structure in the field of performing arts of the Municipality of Loulé, integrated in Rede Azul – Network of Theaters of the Algarve and in Rede 5 Sentidos.
