Self-portrait - Milita Doré

The exhibition “Mountains of love”, by Milita Doré, will be on display from next Saturday, October 10th, until November 29th, at Associação 289, located in Pontes de Marchil, outside the city of Faro towards Loulé.

This is an exhibition «that expands the artist's idea of landscape, which enters, for the first time, the unusual landscape of her own body, a region hitherto unexplored. The decision to self-portrait – and to allow oneself to be portrayed – comes at a moment of extreme sensitivity – the discovery of breast cancer», describes Miriam Tavares, from the 289 association.

Milita Doré makes this trip accompanied by guest artists Ana André, Bertílio Martins, Catarina Correia, Christine Henry, Francisco Valente, Gustavo Jesus, Jorge Graça, Manuel Rodrigues, Miguel Cheta, Susana de Medeiros, Tiago Batista and Vasco Célio.

Basically, the artist from Albufeira decided to «invite artist friends and friends to portray her, before undergoing the treatment that would leave scars, real and metaphorical, on her body».

«Among videos, sculptures, installations, photographs and drawings, Milita Doré reaffirms her condition – woman and artist. Creator of landscapes, conductor of her own destiny, the artist transformed the works of others into her own, merged the representations with the presence of her own body that was portrayed, that did not resist, that gave itself generously and that was welcomed by hands and affectionate eyes», added Miriam Tavares.

Milita Doré was born in Albufeira. With a degree in Visual Arts from the University of Algarve, 'her work focuses on the presence of the body. Silent observer of human beings and their interests, she works emotionally but also realistically», describes 289.

Her works have already been featured in exhibitions such as the EVO Frauen in den Weltreligionen, at the Frauenmuseum (Bon, 2013), at the Trem com Arte Gallery: a women's issue (Faro, 2015) and in the show 289 – A Project by Pedro Cabrita Reis, at Associação 289 (Faro, 2018) among others.

Those interested in attending the opening of the exhibition, on Saturday 10th, will have to make prior appointments until today, October 7th, via email [email protected], writing the names of those who intend to visit the exhibition and the number of group elements.

A confirmation response or suggestion from another time will be sent by the association that organizes the exhibition, due to the limit of people remaining in the space. The available hours are: 17:00 – 17:45 | 17:45 pm – 18:30 pm | 18:30 pm – 19:15 pm | 19:15 pm – 20:00 pm.

The artist Milita Doré will be present on guided tours for groups of up to 10 elements, on 23 October, 7 November and 22 November at 16 pm.
