Maritime tourist with 14 people on board faces Galé beach

Maritime Police Inquiry will find out how the wreck occurred

Two crew and a group of 12 passengers of English, French and Dutch nationalities, who fell overboard this afternoon, after the maritime-tourist vessel on which they were following turned around 350 meters from Galé beach, in the municipality of Albufeira, were assisted by the National Maritime Authority, by INEM and Firefighters.

Tourists are aged between 13 and 72 years old, with two children and a pregnant lady between them.

The alert was received at 14:53 pm, through the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC Lisbon), and the Maritime Police, the vessel “SR43” from the Ferragudo Lifesaving Station, the INEM and the Albufeira Voluntary Firefighters.

At the site, it was found that the 14 people had reached the land by their own means, although 13 had minor injuries.

The castaways were assisted on site by the Albufeira Volunteer Fire Department and INEM and then transported to a hospital unit.

The local command of the Maritime Police of Portimão took care of the incident and will carry out an inquiry to investigate the causes of the accident.
