José Apolinário was today elected chairman of the Algarve's Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR) with 68,5% of the votes cast, in a highly participated election - 423 votes out of a possible 483 -, taking into account that there was only one candidate list for this position.

The Socialist candidate, who until recently was the Secretary of State for Fisheries, had 290 votes in favour, with 116 blank votes and 17 null votes being registered. The electoral college that elected him was composed of all those elected to the Municipal Chambers, in power and in the opposition, and by the elements of the Municipal Assemblies, including the presidents of the Parish Council.

Also elected, but as vice president of the CCDR, was José Pacheco, in this case by the presidents of the Algarve Chambers, with 13 votes in favor and one blank – two edis did not vote.

In statements to the Sul Informação, José Apolinário was satisfied with the high level of participation in this scrutiny, which he believes is the result of his tour of the region in recent weeks.

"We held meetings in the 16 councils, which were themselves very well attended and which were elected by all political parties," he revealed.

José Apolinário sends a more in-depth reaction to tomorrow morning, when a joint statement by the two candidates elected today, both from the PS, and the other vice-president of the Algarve CCDR, the social democrat Elsa Cordeiro, is already scheduled. appointed by the Government, under an agreement between the Socialists and the PSD.

Even so, he told our newspaper that this opening to the mayors of the region is to continue. In fact, Apolinário is himself a mayor, and is currently a member of the Municipal Assembly of Faro, municipality of which he was the mayor.

«There is an enormous desire, on the part of the Chambers, Municipal Assemblies and Parish Councils, to participate in the life of the region. Mayors want to be heard on issues such as the revision of Protal or water management, among others», said the future president of CCDR do Algarve.

José Apolinário will be the first elected president of the CCDR of the Algarve, following today's elections, in which a new model of indirect election of the heads of these entities, which, among other attributions, manage the European Union Funds of the different entities, was launched. regions.
