EasyJet opens new base in Faro and creates 100 jobs

Future base will have «three A320 aircraft», with capacity for 156 passengers

easyJet airline will open a new base at the airport of Faro in the spring of next year, creating 100 jobs. The announcement was made this Thursday, October 8th.

In a statement, easyJet explains that the future base will have "three A320 aircraft", with a capacity for 156 passengers.

José Lopes, executive director of easyJet Portugal, revealed, at a press conference held at the Ministry of Economy, that recruitment starts today, but priority will be given to current employees of the airline, who can thus request a transfer.

Only then, if necessary, will an "external recruitment process" be opened.

According to José Lopes, the new base of Faro confirms, "unequivocally, the great commitment" of easyJet with Portugal.

Not least because this new investment will allow the airline to remain “aware and take advantage of new opportunities that may arise in the market”.

According to José Lopes, an agreement was concluded with «the representatives of our employees», which will avoid «any layoffs and allow this growth».

At the moment, EasyJet, which employs around 325 people in Portugal, has 17 routes from Faro, representing 20% of the passengers disembarked in the region.

At the press conference to announce this new base, Pedro Siza Vieira, Minister of Economy, said that "many wishes came together for this to happen."

“Investing in the air transport sector, at a time when it is probably going through the biggest crisis in the history of the aviation sector, is a sign of confidence in the future”, he said.

This will be easyJet's third base in Portugal, after Lisbon and Porto. There are five planes parked in the capital, while in Porto there are four.

easyJet also announced today that it will open a third base in Malaga (Spain).
