Documentary "War Horses" is the official selection at the film festivals in Patagonia and Los Angeles

Film made and produced in the Algarve, with the Ria Formosa seahorses as the theme

The marine conservation documentary «War Horses» is part of the Official Selection of two film festivals on the American continent, one in Patagonia (Argentina), the other in Los Angeles (United States).

No International Environmental Film Festival of Patagonia, from Puerto Madryn, Argentina, the documentary about the dangers that threaten the seahorse community of the Ria Formosa, a film by the Municipality of Olhão directed by João Rodrigues, was selected for the “Nature and Wildlife” category.

Among hundreds of candidates from all over the world, Portugal, as well as Argentina and Germany, were the three countries chosen to screen those that were considered the best films in this category.

Due to the pandemic, the 5th edition of the festival will be held from 1st to 5th October, online and for free.

The film «War Horses», directed by João Rodrigues, will be screened on October 5th, at 23:00 (Portuguese time) at Festival's Youtube channel, which can be seen by clicking here.

In North America, the good news for Portuguese cinema dedicated to environmental conservation arrived from Los Angeles, California, the birthplace of San Pedro International Film Festival, where «Cavalos de Guerra» is the Official Selection in the category “Short Films” and a finalist candidate for the award for best short film at the 9th edition of the festival. The 2020 edition, which will be online, will take place between November 5th and 8th.

João Rodrigues told the Sul Informação that this good news made «the team of the film Horses of War very proud».

For his part, António Miguel Pina, mayor of Olhão, who financed the production of the documentary, stressed that «the achievement of this international recognition is a source of enormous pride for all Portuguese and further proof that the Ria Formosa is a ex-libris of our natural heritage that needs to be protected and preserved for the sustainability of wildlife and all communities that depend on it».
