Two of the 17 migrants who they fled this morning from the Barracks of the Infantry Regiment No. 1 in Tavira, announced the Foreigners and Borders Service.

One of the men had to be transported to the Hospital of Faro, because he injured his foot during the escape. The other is in the PSP facility in Tavira.

The fleeing migrants are part of the group of 28 Moroccan citizens who landed illegally on Deserta IslandOn Faro, on the 15th of September.

Of these, 24 were housed in the barracks of the Tavira detachment of Infantry Regiment No. 1. The group was in quarantine, as two of the men were diagnosed with Covid-19.

This morning, 17 of these men escaped from the barracks.

As for the remaining four elements of the group, the three women were installed in the Housing Unit of Santo António, in Porto and the minor was handed over to the Family and Minors Court of Faro.

«All the necessary mechanisms to locate the citizens in question have already been activated in the field, in articulation with the other national and Spanish criminal police bodies», assured the SEF.
