The Algarve Tourism Region (RTA) has launched an awareness-raising campaign aimed at motorhome drivers, who are looking for a holiday destination, to promote the use of the Motorhome Service Network in the Algarve Region (RAARA) and its infrastructure.

With slogan “Make the best choice”, the campaign challenges motorhome drivers to stay overnight in one of the 35 units that adhere to the network that comply with the applicable legislation in force for motorhomes and offer all the comfort and safety conditions, providing water, electricity, spoils, wi -fi, among other services.

The objective "is to discourage motorhomes from remaining in informal spaces that lack essential infrastructure and services, nor are they comfortable and safe."

«In the Algarve there is a network of spaces offered to motorhome drivers that allow them to enjoy the main attractions of the destination in accordance with current legislation. This is, in recent years, a modality with growing demand throughout Europe, which the pandemic has made even more evident», says João Fernandes, president of RTA.

“Overnight in places such as car parks serving beaches, cliffs, dunes and pine forests poses serious problems in terms of hygiene and public health, alters the delicate environmental balance of classified sites and constitutes an unnecessary safety risk for motorhome drivers. This campaign challenges them precisely to make the best choice, which will always be the choice of one of the Camping and Caravan Parks, Rural Camping Parks or Service Areas for Motorhomes that are part of RAARA», concludes the responsible for tourism in the Algarve.

The permanence and overnight stay outside these places, stresses the Algarve Tourism Region, «constitutes an infraction and is subject to the action of the supervisory authorities».

The units that make up RAARA are licensed spaces that comply with the applicable legislation in force and are properly identified here.

The campaign to encourage the choice of RAARA takes place in October and November within the scope of the application «SustenTUR Algarve – preservation of the natural and cultural heritage of the Algarve region» to «VALORIZAR Program – Support Line for Sustainability» by Turismo de Portugal .

The campaign's media plan includes the dissemination of posters on outdoor supports (mupis and led boxes at gas stations), social networks (with the aim of raising awareness of the network and generating traffic to the website), Google Ads (search and display campaign) and other online and offline means to reach motorhome drivers, including RTA's own means.

The campaign also includes the dissemination of a video spot on social networks that can also be viewed on the VisitAlgarve channel on YouTube.

«SustenTUR Algarve» is a project to promote sustainability in the Algarve region through the creation of a program of environmental, cultural and social education, information and awareness actions aimed at tourism professionals, visitors, tourists and the resident population. The program aims to incorporate the principles of sustainability by the various stakeholders and includes actions in specific areas of regional tourism activity, providing for a total investment of 255 thousand euros, 80% co-financed by Turismo de Portugal over the past two years.
