Establishments that were closed during the period of confinement will not have to pay the public space occupancy and advertising rates, decided this Tuesday, at a Chamber meeting, the executive of Vila Real de Santo António.

The approved proposal covers the period from March 18th to June 30th.

"The measure will focus on establishments that had to comply with the mandatory closing or opening with restrictions, except for those that never closed during the state of emergency," explains the municipality.

The municipality emphasizes that, with this initiative, "it seeks to provide a clear and effective response to the difficulties that economic agents are going through as a result of the pandemic caused by Covid-19, taking into account that the municipality is heavily dependent on tourism and flows of Spanish citizens moving to VRSA throughout the year'.

The period in question "represents 30% of the calendar year, so that the non-collection of annual fees will have an expression of 30% of the calculated annual value", adds the municipality.

"Due to the mandatory confinement of the population, the mandatory closure measures of a large part of commercial establishments and the closure of borders, local commerce suffered a great impact on its economic results, so this exceptional regime seeks to mitigate and minimize these effects and boost the commercial activity of the municipality», concludes the Chamber of VRSA.
