AMAL President presented to Rui Rio the «main challenges facing the Algarve»

Health and mobility were some of the topics under debate

António Pina, president of the Algarve Intermunicipal Community (AMAL) and its 2 vice-presidents, Osvaldo Gonçalves and Rui André, met this Thursday with Rui Rio, president of the PSD.

As AMAL explains, «the main objective of the work meeting was to share with the PSD leader the main problems and challenges that the Algarve is going through».

At the meeting, «the difficult situation that companies in the Algarve are experiencing in the context of the pandemic was once again highlighted, warning of the impact of the fall in revenue».

The opportunities that will arise with the next community framework were also discussed and the lack of water in the region was presented as one of the priority issues.

At the meeting, António Pina considered “it is essential to ensure, in the first place, human consumption, without neglecting the area of agriculture, although it is necessary to rethink new ways of developing it”.

Health, according to AMAL, “was another of the areas highlighted at the meeting. This is an old concern of the Algarve, and António Pina reinforced the need, and urgency, of having a concrete answer in 2021 about the Hospital Central do Algarve».

Greater autonomy in the region with regard to the management of the territory was also highlighted as fundamental, with the creation of a Regional Council for the Administration of the Territory chaired by the CCDR in collaboration with AMAL, being necessary in the new PROT to differentiate the Interior.

Mobility was also addressed at this working meeting, and the PSD leader was told that AMAL will work together with Andalusia on a project that will extend the railway network in the Mediterranean.

Finally, Rui Rio learned that AMAL is preparing a Plan for the Economic Recovery of the Algarve.

«Like what happened in previous meetings with members of the Government and with the President of the Republic, AMAL reinforced the appeal for the Algarve in a particularly difficult moment not to be forgotten in the crisis that the country is going through, wishing to be able to count, also, with Rui Rio to be a defender of the Algarve», concludes the Intermunicipal Community.
