Luís Gomes wins 1st stage of Volta, João Rodrigues, De Mateos and Amaro in the top 10

Tomorrow there is a new stage

Luís Gomes (Kelly/Simoldes/UDO) won the 1st stage of the Volta a Portugal by bicycle, held this Monday, September 28, between Montalegre and Viana do Castelo (180 kilometers). In the top 10 were the Algarve's João Rodrigues and Amaro Antunes (W52/FC Porto) and Vicente de Mateos (Aviludo-Louletano). 

After yesterday's prologue, today's tirade was played by a small group of cyclists. Luís Gomes sprinted a little before the finish line and ended up winning at the top of Santa Luzia, in Viana do Castelo, with a time of 4 hours, 25 minutes and 41 seconds.

In second was the Alentejo Daniel Mestre (W52/FC Porto). The Algarve's João Rodrigues, also from the W52 and winner of the 2019 Tour, was in 5th place, followed by Vicente de Mateos (Aviludo-Louletano).

Amaro Antunes, from Vila Real de Santo António, finished in 10th place.

As for the individual overall, it continues to be led by the Spaniard Gustavo Veloso (W52/FC Porto). Second is Daniel Mestre (at 1 second).

João Rodrigues appears in 6th place (8 seconds) and De Mateos is in 8th, 12 seconds behind Gustavo Veloso.

This Tuesday, 28th September, the Volta a Portugal goes back to the road for a stage that will connect Paredes to the top of Nossa Senhora da Graça (167 kilometers).
