The Government will invest 1,7 million euros to assess the vulnerability of the Portuguese territory to climate change.

João Pedro Matos Fernandes, Minister of Environment and Climate Action, chaired this Monday, 7 September, at 15 pm, the contract signing session for the project “National Roadmap for Adaptation 00 – Assessment of the vulnerability of the Portuguese territory to changes in the 2100st century” (RNA 2100).

The session took place at the Auditorium of the Directorate-General for the Territory (DGT), in Lisbon, and was also attended by the Secretary of State for Planning José Gomes Mendes.

The RNA 2100, with a total funding of 1,7 million euros (400 thousand euros allocated by the EEA Grants financial mechanism and 1,3 million euros from the Portuguese Environment Agency – APA), has as a priority objective to support and respond to public policy exercises for adapting to climate change at the various levels of territorial intervention.

Through a set of projections and estimation of climate change adaptation costs for economic sectors in 2100, the project brings together knowledge from various institutions.

These will broadly assess the impact, vulnerability and risk of climate change in the national territory. The results achieved will establish guidelines for the micro and macroeconomic contexts.

The RNA 2100 involves the participation of APA, as promoter of the project, Banco de Portugal, DGT, the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere and the Norwegian Civil Protection Directorate.
