Schroll-Flowers group company produces 36 hectares of hydrangeas in Olhão

The Schroll-Flowers group is one of the largest producers of hydrangea varieties in Europe and has been operating in the Algarve for about seven years

The company Flores Pendulares, owned by the Danish group Schroll-Flowers, produces 36 hectares of hydrangeas in the municipality of Olhão, exporting millions of plants to Northern Europe, Canada, Japan and South Korea. require extra care.

To guarantee the productivity and quality of the hydrangeas, Flores Pendulars uses shading nets and an innovative biofilm from Tecniferti.

«HumigelPlus A forms a protective layer on the top of the hydrangea leaves, preventing them from perspiring too much and losing water. With the application of this biofilm, the plants are able to withstand the heat peaks, between 11:00 and 16:00, without damage to the leaves», recognizes Eduardo Vicente, field technician at Flores Pendulars.

HumigelPlus A by Tecniferti is a product based on clays derived from kaolin, rich in silicon dioxide, which act as a physical barrier and reflective of light, protecting crops from sunburn (aka scald).

It differs from other kaolin-based products for its prolonged adhesion to the leaves of plants, even when spray irrigation is used in the crop. Silicon strengthens the plant's cellular structure, making it more resistant to pests and water stress.

The Schroll-Flowers group is one of the largest producers of hydrangea varieties in Europe and has been operating in the Algarve for about seven years, where it has two farms, in Quelfes and in Moncarapacho.

“Thanks to the region's climate, it produces outdoors for 365 days a year and grows plants faster than in Denmark, where they take longer to reach the ideal size for sale,” the company concludes.
