Covid-19: Lusitano de VRSA suspends all activities

Six athletes were in contact with a person who later tested positive for Covid-19

The Lusitano from Vila Real de Santo António decided to suspend all training at all levels, as six athletes from the training were in contact with a person infected with Covid-19.

In a statement, the club says that five junior athletes and one of the youth were, at a «birthday party, in contact with a person who, after testing the Covid-19, found it positive».

Although this person is not "directly linked to Lusitano, having a sense of responsibility and in full agreement with the contingency plan, this decision was immediately taken and the VRSA Health delegate immediately informed", says the club.

The six athletes “are under the control of the health delegate and, at the moment, none of them show symptoms. They are quarantined and waiting to be tested. The rest of the squad is under surveillance», says Lusitano.

In addition to canceling the training sessions, the preparation games of the senior team – which are playing in the District I Division – were also cancelled.

The direction of Lusitano even decided to "completely close" the club, including the facilities, until the 27th of September, "in order to help stop this Covid-19 transmission chain in the city of Vila Real de Santo António."

In recent days, the number of Covid-19 cases in the VRSA county has been increasing. Since Sunday, the county has registered another 8 new infections, raising the number of accumulated cases to 36 and the number of active cases to 14, as you can see on the interactive map of the Sul Informação (data from yesterday).
