Activities at Paderne Castle and online exhibition mark the European Heritage Days in Albufeira

Online exhibition of the Municipal Museum of Archeology can be seen on the 25th, 26th and 27th of September

Albufeira will join the European Heritage Days, which take place from the 25th to the 27th of September, with a special program of activities at the Castle of Paderne and also with an online exhibition promoted by the Municipal Museum of Archaeology.

The activities at the Castle of Paderne are the result of a partnership with the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve and the Film Club of Faro, and the activities are part of the cultural program DiVaM – Dynamization and Valorization of Monuments.

As part of the programme, from 25th September to 18th October, Albufeira will host the “Oficina das Igualdades em Paderne”.

According to the Film Club of Faro (Training Committee) «It is intended to convene two groups of local participants (children and adults) to discover a path that will lead them to the exploration of humanist values and the identity of the concept of freedom (religious, of expression, ideological). The starting point will be the historical heritage associated with the castle of Paderne and the homonymous film and book The Prophet, proposing as a point of arrival the creation of an original text prepared by the participants».

Tomorrow, September 25, at 10:30 am, the Workshop begins with a guided tour of Paderne Castle/historical exploration visit.

The following week, on Wednesday, the 30th, also at 10 am, a movie session is scheduled for school students, with a screening of the film “The Prophet” by Roger Allers and Gaetan Brizzi.

On October 13th, the program is dedicated to the exploration of film and to the landscape writing workshop. The action takes place at the Castle, starting at 10:30 am, and children and adults can participate. On October 18th, at 17 pm, the “The World in our Village” initiative begins.

Every week, in the space of the Choral Group of the Banda Filarmónica de Paderne, a group of people from six different countries: Germany, England, Barbados, Portugal, Netherlands and Ireland get together to sing. They are united by a taste for music and also a love for the land that everyone has chosen to live. The program includes a capella choir performance, followed by oriental dance and ends with “The Real Band” – traditional songs.

The Municipal Museum of Archeology is also associated with the European Heritage Days, on the 25th, 26th and 27th of September, exhibiting an exhibition, which aims to present the new features of the equipment, namely in the area of mobility and knowledge.

Reopened to the public last July, after several months of works, and now accessible to all types of public, the exhibition also aims to publicize the Museum's Educational and Dissemination Service, specifically the work developed, whether in terms of activities or visits that explore the history of humanity and the municipality itself and serve as a link between the public and heritage.

This is an online exhibition that can be viewed here.

The European Heritage Days are a joint initiative of the Council of Europe and the European Commission, coordinated at national level by the Directorate General for Cultural Heritage.
