Milreu, Paderne, Alcalar, Sagres and Guadalupe host European Heritage Days

The Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve promotes, within the scope of the European Heritage Days (JEP), which take place from 25 to 27 September, a diversified program of cultural activities to take place in the Roman Ruins of Milreu, Paderne Castle, Megalithic Monuments of Alcalar, Fortress of Sagres and Chapel of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

The proposed activities are part of the cultural program DiVaM – Dynamization and Valorization of Monuments – which this year, in its 7th edition, is dedicated to the theme “Human Rights, Equality and Non-Discrimination”, and also explore the relationship between two great universes – Heritage and Education – : What is the role of Heritage in Education? What is the role of Education in Heritage?

The program presented includes several proposals for artistic and pedagogical workshops aimed at different types of audience, performance and ecological awareness projects and an integrated lecture in the “Amateurs in Situ – The Ancient World seen by those who love it”, cycle organized in collaboration with the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences of the University of Algarve.

Because working with Education based on Heritage is also recognizing the value it has as an agent of transformation in the world.

On September 25, starting at 10:30 am, in the Roman Ruins of Milreu, the project “Milreu – Meeting of peoples, ideas and cultures” will take place, promoted by the QRER – Cooperative for the development of low-density territories – with the Fresco Painting workshop: “Field work in Milreu – XNUMXst and XNUMXth centuries”, aimed at ASMAL users.

On the same day, the Castle of Paderne hosts the “Oficina das Igualdades em Paderne”, also starting at 10:30 am. The starting point of this initiative, which includes a guided tour and historical exploration workshop, will be the historical heritage associated with the castle of Paderne.

On September 26, between 10:00 am and 18:00 pm, at the Megalithic Monuments of Alcalar, the “Pre-History Workshops” project takes place, in the field of “Experimental Archeology” and “Art and Archeology”: Carving workshop, workshop of slate slabs, clay workshop and cave painting workshop. The Fortress of Sagres, on September 26, at 16 pm, is the stage for the show “O Grande Embrulho” (integrated in the Ventania Festival and in the 00 Algarve program). This is an interactive show with a strong ecological message 'wrapped' in moments of humor, surprise and poetry, which brings together the languages ​​of clown, dance, music and object manipulation around a conical paper bag. Project with Creation and Interpretation by Thorsten Grütjen and Music by Gil Abrantes.

The project is by Teatro Experimental de Lagos, supported by the 365 Algarve programme, and tickets can be bought here.

On Saturday, September 26th, at 17 pm, the Roman Ruins of Milreu will receive another lecture from the cycle Amatores in Situ – The ancient world seen by those who love it – VI edition, with the theme “Music and musical occasions in Roman culture ”, by Fuensanta Garrido Domené (Universidad de Córdoba).

In this revisit through the Roman musical panorama, the musical and cultural influences received from other Mediterranean cultures will be explained, and an attempt will be made to create a catalog of musical instruments that are most used by the population of Rome. More lectures are scheduled for October 16th and 23rd, November 13th and December 4th.

This year's JEP activities end on Sunday, September 27, at 18 pm, at the Chapel of Nossa Senhora de Guadalupe, with the theatrical performance “Laurinda didn't go to war”.

Assuming the pedagogical value of theatre, this is a play that leads us to revisit the spiral of History, always evolving, in an attempt to overcome old fractures, and at the same time, prepares us to deal with future crises. The authorship and staging is by António Gambóias and the interpretation is in charge of Ana Cristina Oliveira, Ana Isabel Baptista, Catarina Silva and Inês Martins. The organization is the Associação Cultural Música XXI.
