Algarvio João Rodrigues starts defending the title in the prologue of Fafe da Volta a Portugal

Return to Portugal, in a format adapted to Covid-19, starts today

João Rodrigues, winner in 2019, will be the last of the 98 cyclists enrolled in the special edition of the Volta a Portugal starting for the prologue that marks the start of the race, today, in Fafe.

The W52-FC Porto runner will start defending the title he won last year at 17:20, one minute after José Neves (Burgos BH), the penultimate to go on the road.

However, it is David Rodrigues (Rádio Popular-Boavista) who will have the honor of inaugurating the special edition of Volta a Portugal, organized by the Portuguese Cycling Federation, with the runner checkered to start the prologue of seven kilometers, starting at Parque da Cidade and arriving at Praça 25 de Abril, at 15:43.

The premier event on the national calendar will connect Fafe to Lisbon, with a total of 1.183,9 kilometers, spread over a prologue and eight stages, to be disputed until 5 October, by 98 cyclists, from 14 teams, in a reduced format, resulting from the pandemic of Covid-19.

On Saturday, João Salgado's new coronavirus positive ruled the Portuguese team out of the race, as determined by Anadia's health delegate, where the representatives of the national team were training.
