Alcoutim approved measures to support students and families at the beginning of the school year

Free school transport for students who attend schools in neighboring municipalities and individual support for primary school students are some of the measures that the Alcoutim Council has taken to support families this school year.

The Alcoutenejo municipal executive approved "a proposal for exemption from payment of school transport for secondary schools in Tavira, Vila Real de Santo António, Mértola, Alsud and Vila Real de Santo António Hotel School, for the 2020/2021 school year."

According to the Alcoutim City Council, “a school transport plan was also organized, combining and complementing the public transport network, in accordance with the demand actually verified in each school year”.

Thus, "it was defined that the municipality will transport all children from the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles free of charge and will bear the full amount of passes required in the municipality by secondary and vocational education students who will attend schools outside the municipality of Alcoutim" .

«The transport plan foresees 8 circuits for pre-school and basic education, totaling 711 kilometers/day» and will cost around 125 thousand euros, revealed the Alcouteneja autarchy.

For secondary education, 8 circuits are also planned. Four of them are carried out in municipal vehicles, «which total 275 kilometers/day» and cost around 46 thousand euros per year.

The remaining four circuits are carried out by EVA – Transportes, SA public transport lines and are destined for the Secondary Schools of Mértola, Tavira and Vila Real de Santo António, «with a total cost/year of 38,7 euros being foreseen» .

In addition to paying for transport, the Municipality of Alcoutim will provide “individual economic support in the amount of 90 euros to all students in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles, in the amount of 100 euros to all students attending secondary education and vocational education and the value of 300 euros to all students who attend a CET (Technological Specialization Course) or a CTSP (Higher Professional Technical Course)».

“On a collective basis, the granting of economic assistance in the amount of 1000 euros to all students in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles was approved”, revealed the Chamber.

In the same proposal, «and considering the socio-economic characteristics of the municipality, which show the low purchasing power of resident families, the payment of lunch to all children attending kindergartens and schools was approved, in terms of food. from the county that attend the nursery, nursery, pre-school, ATL, 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles».

The lunches of children who attend the nursery, nursery, pre-school and ATL «extends to the period of school holidays». In the case of students from 1st to 9th grade, “the amount not reimbursed by the Ministry of Education will be paid”.

The Alcoutim Chamber also announced that it will open a competition for the attribution of 40 “Dr. João Dias”, «with the monthly value of 100 euros, to be allocated during a period of ten months (October to July)».

This support “is intended for students residing in the Municipality who are attending higher education, bachelor or master's courses, in public or private establishments, in the academic year 2020/2021”.
