Portimão reinforces forestry prevention and media readiness

Portimão had already increased the level of readiness of its resources on the ground before the Government decreed the Alert Situation

The Portimão City Council prohibited "the carrying out of works in forest areas using any type of machinery, as well as the use of fireworks or other pyrotechnic devices" and reinforced the level of readiness of means on the ground until tomorrow August 4, following the order released yesterday by the Government.

The Municipal Civil Protection Commission of Portimão (CMPC) met this morning by video teleconference «to analyze the risk in the municipal territory and review the operational measures of anticipation», after yesterday the Government declared the Alert Situation until tomorrow, Tuesday fair, for the entire territory of mainland Portugal.

"The decision was taken under the Civil Protection Basic Law, and the operational measures of anticipation had already been implemented since last Saturday in the municipality by the Municipal Civil Protection Service of Portimão," according to the Portimão Chamber.

At today's meeting, it was decided to “strengthen monitoring in the field of rural fire risk, in order to guard against a possible change in the situation, since all response mechanisms, assistance and logistical support of the operations are mobilized or with a degree of high readiness'.

 

Learn about the prevention measures in force since Saturday in Portimão:

– Reinforcement of the Fire Department's response device, with the mobilization of all its staff;

– Pre-positioning of technical means and human resources in strategic locations in the municipality, namely intervention teams and tracking machines;

– Reinforcement of surveillance and awareness actions in rural areas and peri-urban interface, under the coordination of the GNR in conjunction with the Forestry Technical Office, promoting an early detection of spring fires and the deterrence of risky behavior, with teams from the PSP, Police Maritime, GNR, SMPC, EMARP and Parish Councils;

– Increased monitoring and dispatching capacity in the Municipal Room for Operations and Emergency Management;

– Increased capacity for reconnaissance, assessment, operations management and decision support, with mobilization of command and control and technical support means and resources;

– Increased readiness of means of logistical support for operations, through the Humanitarian Association of Firefighters, National Scout Corps and the Portuguese Red Cross in conjunction with the Municipal Social Action services with pre-alert from the Logistic Support Base (BAL) at Júdice Fialho School;

– Preparation of the Population Concentration and Support Zones (ZCAP), in each parish, with the support of the Municipality's Social Emergency Network;

– Involvement of Parish Councils and Local Security Officers in the scope of the “Aldeia Segura” and “Pessoas Seguras” programmes;

– Activation of the Municipal Aerodrome of Portimão, as an alternative Air Resources Center for the Special Device for Combating Rural Fires (DECIR);

– Articulation with those responsible for the electrical, road and communications networks, preventing the recovery of normality in the event of a fire.
