Monchique once again offers activity notebooks and worksheets to primary school students

Rui André believes that this support "has never made so much sense"

The Municipality of Monchique will continue to offer notebooks of activities and forms to 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycle students residing in the municipality or attending schools in the municipality.

This will be a complement to the textbooks, which will be guaranteed by the Government, free of charge, to all Basic Education students.

In the past, the City Council offered school manuals to all students in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles, a measure that "was part of the set of support and tax incentives that the municipality makes available to its student population" and which "intended to cover all students, irrespective of their socio-economic status».

But with the launch of the national textbook loan program, this measure "no longer makes sense".

However, as the free and reuse program for school manuals «does not include the activity notebooks and worksheets, nor the other components of the so-called teaching packs, the municipality intends to continue this support, assuming the costs of notebooks that are not covered by the Government's programme'.

“More than ever, this support makes sense, considering all the social and community environment that the population is experiencing. Access to education and equal opportunity continues to be a priority for this Municipal Executive. Therefore, more than ever, this help to families makes perfect sense», illustrates Rui André, Mayor of Monchique.

In addition to the manuals, the Monchiquican municipality will provide other types of support to students and their families, namely “school transport throughout the county and for all levels of education, exemptions and reduced fees at the municipal crèche, as well as scholarships for university students, on average 50 per academic year».

"At a time when the start of a new school year is being prepared which, given the circumstances in which it will take place, will require significant changes in the organization and functioning of schools and also of all related services such as transport, the Municipality of Monchique is working together with the Monchique Schools Group in order to provide all the technical, physical and above all safety conditions so that school activities can take place as normally as possible in the context of a pandemic, if maintain the rules in force determined by the General Directorate of Health – DGS», concluded the Chamber.
