Catalina wins Music JA

Final took place at Espaço Quintalão, in Faro

Catalina was the winning project of the 2020 edition of Música JA – IPDJ|Algarve Modern Music Contest, whose final was held on August 12, International Youth Day, at Espaço Quintalão, in Faro.

The jury composed by representatives of the IPDJ, FNAC Portugal, ETIC_Algarve, RUA FM and Mentecapta selected for the final of the contest of bands Mateus Verde, TheElephantWoman, Dispirited Spirits and Catalina, after having evaluated «the instrumental technique, the presentation on stage, the originality and lyrical and musical content».

Catalina was the winner, with TheElephantWoman in second place, Dispirited Spirits in third and Mateus Verde was fourth.

As explained by the IPDJ, «giving a stage to young people and creating conditions for the growth of their projects are the objectives of Música JA», which is the result of a partnership between the Algarve Regional Directorate of the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth and the Municipality of Faro, Municipality of Lagoa, Municipality of S. Brás, Academic Association of the University of Algarve, RUA FM, ETIC_Algarve, FNAC Portugal and with the production of Mentecapta.

The eight selected projects played in two qualifiers. On August 7th, in São Brás de Alportel, Mateus Verde, Maybe Kyes, WTDPG and Apocalypse took to the cinema stage, while on August 11th, the Fatacil stage hosted The ElephantWoman, Catalina, Dispirited Spirits and Cranky Geeks.

The four finalist projects will have the opportunity to present themselves to the public at Festival F, at Fatacil, Feira da Serra, at Semana Académica do Algarve, and at a FNAC.

There will also be the inclusion of a theme in the daily schedule of RUA FM. The winning project will also have the right to record an EP and produce a video clip.
