A 48-year-old man and a 61-year-old woman were arrested this Saturday, 15 August, for stealing carob in Algoz, municipality of Silves.
After a complaint from the owner of the land, the military "immediately moved to the location, where they detained the suspects in the act," says the GNR.
The arrest culminated in the seizure of a total of 140 kilos of carob, already packed in bags.
The detainees were constituted as defendants and the facts referred to the Judicial Court of Silves.
During the last week, during Operation "Campo Seguro", which involves producers and the population in combating this scourge, in the municipality of Silves, the GNR detained a total of seven people for carob theft and seized a total of 386 kilos of carob beans that were returned to their rightful owners.
