President of the Republic visited Caldas de Monchique and toasted with water… and arbutus

Head of State visited the municipality of Monchique today…and tomorrow morning it continues

The President of the Republic bought a bottle of water from Monchique, but he also drank it at the spa fountain and even made a toast with it. He also drank medronho brandy with a Luso-Brazilian family, spoke to three Beatrizes and all the children he met, as well as national and foreign tourists, tasted the water in the outdoor pool, weighed himself on an old scale, and, of course, took selfies, though few.

In the meantime, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa visited the Termas de Monchique, accompanied by the mayor and the director of the tourist and thermal complex, to show that «the Algarve has this, a little bit of everything: it has beaches, mountains, sea, there is fish, there is fruit». And there is even health tourism, as was seen in Caldas de Monchique.

The visit of the Head of State took place this Sunday afternoon, . One of the highlights was a moment completely out of the program. The President went to greet a group of people who were sitting at a table in the square, discovering that it was a Portuguese-Brazilian family, she from Curitiba, he from Portimão.

“I arrived in Portugal the day you took office,” said Tânia, the gray-haired Brazilian lady, very at ease, to Marcelo. The President eventually accepted the invitation to drink a medronho brandy with the group, sat down at the table, made a toast and even briefly debated politics with you.

In the end, the President asked her what she thought of our country: "I love Portugal, I'm even married to a Portuguese man", replied Tânia, between laughs.

In the end, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa headed for the village of Monchique where, at the Charrete restaurant, close to the City Council, he returned to have another working dinner with the Algarve's mayors.

Tomorrow morning, after having spent the night at the Hotel D. Carlos, in Caldas de Monchique, the Head of State will discover other secrets of the council.

In the afternoon, head to Faro, to unveil the national treasure plaque of the Roman mosaic of the Ocean God, at the Municipal Museum. In the evening, there will be another working dinner with the mayors.
