Ruy de Carvalho sponsors the candidacy of the Festival of the Florida Torches to the 7 Wonders

Actor Ruy de Carvalho is the godfather of the application of the Procession of Alleluia (Feast of the Florida Torches) of São Brás de Alportel to the contest “7 Wonders of Popular Culture”. 

The election for the regional finalist takes place until the 6th of July, through popular telephone voting on the number 706 207 707.

An unavoidable figure in Portuguese culture, at the age of 93, Ruy de Carvalho is a «singular talented actor, with a career of nearly eight decades on stage, in theater and cinema, currently participating in the series “Nazaré”», he says the Chamber of São Brás.

Ruy de Carvalho has been strengthening his connection with São Brás de Alportel, a land he frequently visits as godfather of the “Coração 100Dono” association, dedicated to defending the animal cause «and now our council is very honored by accepting the invitation to to sponsor the Procession of the Hallelujah».

«The procession of Alleluia with ancestral roots is historically and sentimentally linked to the São Brasense community and is the heart of the Florida Torch Festival, which attracts, year after year, thousands of visitors to the county, having the opportunity to have a unique and genuine experience. at the cultural and also gastronomic level».

The São Brasense candidacy was chosen as the regional finalist of the program “7 Wonders of Popular Culture” which this year received 504 candidacies at national level and integrates a list of 140 regional finalists at national level and is preparing to compete along with 7 more candidacies of the Algarve.

The regional qualifiers will be broadcast through RTP1 and RTP Internacional from 6 July, totaling 20 regional finals in which the finalists who pass to the next phase will be chosen by popular vote.

The Associação Cultural Sambrasense, with the support of the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel, submitted an application for the contest that aims to determine which are the 7 most significant Wonders of Popular Culture in Portugal, an initiative that follows a series of other “7 Wonders” contests ” that since 2007 intend to disseminate and communicate the positive values ​​of a strong National Identity – recognized national causes.

The two semifinals, which will choose 14 finalists, will be broadcast on the 23rd and 30th of August, while the grand final is scheduled for the 5th of September and will be broadcast in prime time on RTP.
