The mayor of Lagoa met, this Friday morning, with representatives of health, tourism, environment, security and civil protection authorities, to assess the situation of the occupation of beaches in the municipality.

The beaches of Marinha, Benagil, Albandeira and Vale de Centeanes are the points that «are under greater pressure with levels of occupation above the recommended», stresses the municipality.

Luís Encarnação confirmed that parking along these beaches has already been reduced, following the indications of the Portuguese Environment Agency, precisely to discourage their use. The start of municipal works at Praia da Marinha is another dissuasive measure against the use of that bathing destination.

During the meeting, up-to-the-minute monitoring of the situation of the beaches in the municipality was carried out, through monitoring instruments implemented by the City Council, which allow obtaining data on the total number of people.

«Raising awareness» was the key word coming out of this work meeting. Raise awareness, on the one hand, of the authorities of the need for greater supervision in traffic and parking areas. Sensitize, on the other hand, vacationers to prefer beaches with wider and less crowded sands.

Luís Encarnação led this meeting accompanied by councilor Jorge Pardal, responsible for the beaches and coastline.

Health delegate Maria Teresa Pereira, the captain of the Port of Portimão, Commander Rodrigo Gonzalez dos Paços, Ema Mendonça, from the Algarve Tourism Region, three commanders of the GNR – from the territorial detachment of Silves, represented by commander Alferes Silva, from the post territory of Lagoa, by commander Euclides Martinho, and of Carvoeiro, by commander Nelson Carmo -, the fire and civil protection commanders of Lagoa, respectively Vitor Rio and Jorge Cabrita, who was also joined, by video call, by Paula Noronha, from the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA), were other personalities who took part in the meeting.
