There is a new service in the Algarve that takes a bartender home

The project started with «the idea of keeping the bar functioning, the jobs and avoiding illegal gatherings and parties»

Cocktails prepared live by a barman at home is the new service that a bar in Faro is promoting this summer in the Algarve, an idea that arose during the confinement caused by the covid-19 pandemic.

The service, which can also be performed at the request of companies, includes the barman and all the logistics associated with the preparation of drinks, with several menus, including cocktails [drinks] without alcohol for children, with gums or marshmallows, Miguel Gião tells Lusa.

The project started with «the idea of keeping the bar functioning, the jobs and avoiding illegal gatherings and parties», said the executive director of the EQEPEC group (acronym for Eu Quero, Eu Pode, Eu Consigo), which is promoting the service.

«Being able to bring this service to customers makes more sense than doing takeaway drinks”, he notes, noting that the 'Bartender at home' is “a turnkey service”, which includes everything: glasses, ice, drinks and even personalized glasses for children.

Also, given the current context, the three barman available to do the service – among which João Rodrigues, distinguished as the best б Portuguese in 2016 – comply with «all the required sanitary rules», guarantees the entrepreneur.

With 39 years old, Miguel Gião and his brother, Ricardo, ventured into the hotel business early on. They started in 2004 with the bar Columbus and since then have not stopped: today, they manage five establishments in Faro, the most recent opened in June.

For Miguel, the project makes perfect sense «at a time when people want to avoid meeting as much as possible» and when food and beverage establishments are still operating in a conditional way due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The service starts at 150 euros and usually lasts between an hour and a half and two hours, and can be extended at the request of customers and personalized, if it is a themed party. The base menu includes approximately 20 cocktails for groups of up to 10 people.

Despite the exclusivity, the entrepreneur considers this an “economic” service, since “it would be more expensive for the customer to buy each product”.
