There are more people recovered in the Algarve, while active cases decrease

Situation in the Algarve has just been released by the District Commission for Civil Protection of Faro

The data on the Epidemiological Situation of the Algarve, according to data provided by the Regional Health Authority, indicate that, in the last 24 hours, there are 10 more people recovered from Covid-19 in the region, while the number of active cases of the disease has decreased by 4.

The state of play in the Algarve, which has just been released by the District Commission for Civil Protection of Faro, indicates that the total number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic, in the Algarve region, now reaches 866, 4 more than yesterday.

As for the patients who have already recovered, they total 585, that is, 67,3% of the people who, in the Algarve, were infected by SARS-Cov-2.

The Regional Health Authority also informs that there are 10 people admitted to hospitals in the Algarve, half of them in Intensive Care.

However, for a few days now, the numbers communicated by the Regional Health Authority to mayors and others responsible in the Algarve are below the numbers announced by the DGS. The first now total 883 (plus 5 cases), the second 866 (plus 4).

O Sul Informação he had already asked the Regional Authority for an explanation for this gap. That entity replied that this can be explained by the fact that the "registration of cases carried out at SINAVE (National Epidemiological Surveillance System) assumes, at first, the user's residence according to the registration of the RNU (National User Registry)".

Now, he adds, "at the regional level, when the epidemiological analysis is carried out, the cases are allocated to the region where the user currently lives."

In fact, the director-general of Health has already explained "this situation in similar occurrences in other regions, in the press conferences of the DGS, with the change of place of residence".

The Regional Health Authority also says that this discrepancy between regional data and those released by the DGS «may also be related to the greater mobility of citizens in this bathing season, the season with the greatest tourist movement in the Algarve».

In other words, part of the cases, despite the tests having been carried out in the Algarve and, at first, added to the totals for the region, in reality concern tourists, people who have residency in other parts of the country or even abroad.

The Regional Health Authority, in the response sent to our newspaper, adds that it is "directly articulating with the DGS in order to identify specific constraints" and improve the way in which data is presented. However, over the course of a week, the situation was maintained, and there is now a delay of 13 cases.
