Carlos Gouveia Martins, current president of the PSD/Portimão, re-candidates for the position, in the council elections that will take place on the 5th of September.
This electoral act will elect the local leaders of the PSD/Portimão for the 2020-2022 biennium.
In a statement, Carlos Gouveia Martins says that he took this decision after receiving "unanimous, unequivocal and motivating support" from a "very large group of people from Portimo who have lived and felt the PSD since always or since more recent times."
«I know the day-to-day reality of the Portuguese, the families and the people of Portimo, and this is a clear advantage over those who are politicians merely for career purposes, without knowledge of the labor market and the difficulties of the various sectors of the national economy . I am aware of this virtue, which I do not abdicate, of working without depending on politics and what this means to better serve the PSD and Portimonenses in the next two years», he adds.
On the re-candidacy, Carlos Gouveia Martins recognizes that, despite the PSD being "one step ahead" of what it was in the past, "more is needed".
“I am a candidate for the presidency of the PSD of Portimão because I am even more ambitious for this council. Although I am aware of the honor of perhaps leading the most organized, dynamic and active municipal political structure in the provision of public accounts in the entire Algarve region, it is not enough for me», he says.
«I demand and believe that it is possible to continue to lead, in political proposals, being one of the only parties that presents alternative proposals to the Great Options of the Plan and to the Municipal Budgets of those in municipal power, in municipal strategy and willing to act the municipality of Portimão is increasingly the reference and mainstay of work in the Algarve region», he adds, in a statement.
For Gouveia Martins, the process is still "halfway", believing that "it is with this leadership that we will promote, create and present a municipal political program in which the people of Portimo can see themselves".
With Municipalities scheduled for 2021, this is an objective that the candidate does not hide: «I live with the daily ambition of making this PSD in Portimão, this structure that will lead the municipal process, the first team to win Municipal Elections in 2021».
Carlos Gouveia Martins also justifies that he took this decision to re-apply because he believes he is «the militant from Portimão best prepared to lead the PSD council structure in the formation of the group of people from Portimão, with strong and dedicated candidates for the Municipality, who will lead the five local authorities that will vote in the 2021 municipal elections».
